About Us
Western Mennonite School is a fully accredited boarding and day school located just outside of the capital city of Salem, Oregon. We provide an educational experience centered around five key distinctives to equip students in grades 6 through 12 for a life of faith and learning.
Established within a Christ-centered environment, our program focuses on students growing from their strengths and provides a setting for them to examine the significance of Christ’s teachings.
We offer students the personal attention of a small school with the opportunities of a large school. Faculty and staff at WMS strive to help students realize their potential—academically, socially, and spiritually.
Christ-centered
Our faculty and staff encourage students to reflect on their life in classes, chapels, small groups, and extracurricular activities. During these times, each student can explore, challenge, and grow in their faith in God. All students are invited to cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and all are mentored based on His teachings.
Academic Excellence
Students at Western are introduced to learning as a life-long process. They are offered classes that address critical areas of growth, preparing them for the next stages of their life. We provide a comprehensive academic program where students take ownership of their education and work together with faculty and staff. A high honors program is offered.
Nurturing Community
An important part of student success at Western is the nurturing atmosphere. Our community of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends come together in support of Christ-centered education and create a unique support system for students. Their involvement is a key foundation for students to form relationships of accountability and respect, giving them a positive network on which to expand in the local and global community.
Peace & Service
Rooted in our Mennonite faith and Anabaptist beliefs, WMS promotes an active, purposeful and compassionate lifestyle. Faculty and staff teach and model these attributes through class projects, service days, and in their year-end Mini-Term activities. These experiences provide opportunities for students to lead, serve and share their faith journey in the classroom and in the community.
Enrichment Opportunities
During this time of their life, youth are discovering who they are and their God-given gifts. Students at WMS are encouraged to take part in out-of-class activities to explore their interests. Opportunities are offered in sports, music, drama, clubs, and leadership and service opportunities.
